SASSA SRD online application for R370 or R350

Apply for the SASSA SRD R370 grant (still searched as R350) online at srd.sassa.gov.za. The application is free, and you do not need an agent. The SRD grant pays R370 a month to people aged 18 to 59 with low income. It was R350 until 31 March 2024, and it became R370 from 1 April 2024. If an old message says R350, it is the same SRD account.

You apply once. SASSA re-tests your income every month, so you do not reapply monthly. A "Reapplication Required" status is the exception. It means you must send a fresh declaration on the same portal. The application page is the official SASSA SRD portal. The grant has been extended for another year beyond March 2027, according to October 2026 budget documents.

Check if you may qualify for the SRD grant

The eligibility checker uses the main SRD rules: age 18 to 59 and income of R624 a month or less. Answer a few questions to see whether you may qualify before you start the application.

Question 1 of 9

Means test and income calculator for the R624 rule

The SRD means test compares your monthly income with the current published threshold of R624 a month unless SASSA updates it. Enter your income to see if you pass. Add each income line and the tool shows your monthly total and a pass or fail verdict.

The R624 rule. The SRD means test is SASSA's monthly check that your income is R624 a month or less (the food poverty line). A deposit of R624 or more in the tested month can trigger a decline. R624 exactly passes.

Nothing you type leaves your browser. This page runs on your phone. No sign-up, no fee. This is a guide, not a SASSA decision. Always confirm on the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za.

About this tool

Each line you add is sorted into one of three groups:

  • Counts. Added to your monthly total.
  • Ignored. Never added. These are refunds, insurance payouts and transfers between your own accounts.
  • Flagged. Counted, but a warning is shown. These are a UIF payment, an NSFAS or bursary payment, and another SASSA grant.

Your counted total is compared to R624. A total of R624 or less passes. A total over R624 fails, and the tool shows the rand amount you are over.

The tool does not ask for your ID number, your bank details or your phone number. Everything is calculated on your device and nothing is saved.

How to apply for SASSA SRD online, step by step

Go to srd.sassa.gov.za, choose the SRD application, enter your ID and phone number, and complete the income and banking fields.

  1. Open srd.sassa.gov.za on your phone. Choose the option to apply for the SRD grant.
  2. Type your 13-digit ID number and the cellphone number registered in your name.
  3. Answer the income questions. Include money from work, piece jobs, UIF, NSFAS or another grant.
  4. Enter your own bank account details. The account must be in your name.
  5. Submit the form. Keep the SMS and any reference number you get.

The SASSA online application is free. You do not need a password or app. If you see "Reapplication Required", send a fresh declaration on the same portal. That is the only time you must apply again.

Do not pay an agent. If your status says Pending, wait; do not send a second application. Use a phone number you control, and update it on srd.sassa.gov.za if it changes.

What you need before you apply for SASSA SRD

Before you apply, have your South African ID, a phone number that can receive SMS, and your own bank account details ready.

  • Your 13-digit ID number.
  • A cellphone number registered in your name that can receive SMS.
  • Your own bank account details. The account must be in your name.
  • Details of any income you get each month.

You also need to meet the SRD rules: age 18 to 59, income of R624 a month or less, no other SASSA grant, and no UIF or NSFAS funding. Banking verification takes about 3 to 7 working days after you submit your details. Check that the name on your bank account matches your ID exactly. A mismatch can make the bank details check fail.

What happens after you submit your SRD application

After you submit, check your SRD status on the official portal; approved payments are batched in the 21st to 30th window. SASSA re-tests your income every month, so you do not reapply monthly. Status updates usually show between the 10th and 20th of the month, with most between the 18th and 26th. If your status is approved but no pay date appears, your batch is not scheduled yet. An approved status means you qualify for that month. Check again after the 20th; the pay date can appear later than the status change. Check at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.

Already applied? check your SRD status. If approved, see SRD payment dates after approval. If declined, appeal if your application is declined.
